Next Fashion Designer of Tokyo 2025
Young Talents from Tokyo,
Test Your Wings in the World.
To make Tokyo a fashion hub on par with Paris, Milan, New York, and London, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government is taking steps to promote the fashion and apparel industry. As part of this initiative, new competitions will be organised to discover and nurture young talents capable of performing on the world stage.
What evolutions lie ahead for fashion in the future?
From exciting, never-before-seen designs to new functions that enrich people's lives, and innovative ideas that solve social challenges, the possibilities for fashion are surely endless. With this in mind, we welcome applications from fashion students and creative people from all walks of life.
From Tokyo, we will expand the potential of fashion. We look forward to meeting a new generation of designers with unfettered and open-minded ideas who are not bound by the conventions of the past.

* The winners of the Special Selection Award will be determined by a public vote on SNS and
other platforms among the works that pass the first-round screening.
○ The award-winning works will be displayed at various commercial facilities in Tokyo.
○ Award winners will receive support for starting a business or launching a brand, as well as assistance in participating in exhibitions in Paris.
○ Applicants will be able to join workshops and other activities to help them succeed as designers on the global stage in the coming years.
Outline

These competitions welcome applications from fashion students and those involved in various creative fields such as digital media, animation, video production, and more!
We support individuals who go beyond the boundaries of conventional fashion competitions and lead the fashion industry with new values.

Head JudgeKatsuhiko HibinoPresident of Tokyo University of the Arts Director of Gifu Prefectural Museum of Art Director of Contemporary Art Museum Kumamoto Council Member of Tokyo Arts and Culture Council
He completed his graduate studies at Tokyo University of the Arts in 1984. He received the Grand Prix at the Japan Graphic Exhibition in 1982 and the ADC Awards Grand Prix in 1983. He exhibited at the Sydney Biennale in 1986 and the Venice Biennale in 1995. In 1999, he was awarded the Mainichi Design Award Grand Prix. In 2015, he received the Minister of Education Award for Fine Arts in the Art Promotion Division by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. In April 2022, he was appointed President of Tokyo University of the Arts.

Vice Head JudgeYumiko HaraFashion director
In 1970, Hara took part in the launch of An An magazine and began working as a stylist in 1972. For about 40 years since 1973, she has covered the Paris prêt-à-porter collections and reported on them for newspapers. Her diverse activities include serving on the selection committee for fashion-related awards as a fashion director, lecturing, and supervising kimono-related events.

JudgeYuriko OdaRepresentative Director of NPO WheeLog! / Representative Director of NPO PADM
Due to a progressive muscle disease, she uses an electric wheelchair. She is involved in advocacy activities for developing new drugs for ultra-rare diseases and manages the development of the collaborative barrier-free map "WheeLog!". As a former non-disabled person who is now disabled, she aims to make Japan a welfare-advanced nation. She has received numerous awards, including the Grand Prix at the 7th Japan SDGs Award (Prime Minister's Award from the SDGs Promotion Headquarters), the Global Innovator Award at Expo 2020 Dubai, and the Minister's Commendation for Barrier-Free Initiatives from MLIT.

JudgeYusuke TakahashiCFCL Inc. / Representative and Creative Director
He was born in Tokyo in 1985. After graduating from Bunka Fashion Graduate University in 2010, he joined Miyake Design Studio Co., Ltd. In 2013, he became a designer for ISSEY MIYAKE MEN. In 2020, he founded CFCL, which stands for "Clothing For Contemporary Life." In 2021, he received the 39th Mainichi Fashion Awards Newcomer Award (2021), the Shiseido Sponsorship Award, and FASHION PRIZE OF TOKYO 2022. From VOL.4 (AW2022) onwards, his collection has been announced on the Paris Fashion Week official schedule.

Manager (fashion director)As a buyer for "ReStyle," an independently curated select shop that symbolizes "Fashion Isetan" with its overwhelming uniqueness and power to attract customers, he facilitates brand-transcending interactions using various angles. Since joining the company in 2014, he has gained experience in sales and as an assistant buyer, leading to his current position this year.

JudgeChizuru MukoSustainability Director at WWDJAPAN
Having graduated from Tokyo Woman's Christian University, she worked in sales at Edwin and as a journalist for Japan Textile Newspaper before joining INFAS Publications in 2000. As a journalist, she primarily covered designer brands both domestically and internationally. She served as the Editor-in-Chief of "WWD Japan" and in April 2021 assumed the executive role of Editor-in-Chief and Sustainability Director at "WWDJAPAN." In addition to her duties as a journalist, she has given lectures at fashion schools and served as an expert committee member for various government ministries, contributing to the shift towards sustainability in the fashion industry. In August 2024, she started working independently. She continues to serve as the Sustainability Director at "WWDJAPAN" while expanding her areas of activity.

JudgeKunihiko MorinagaANREALAGE Designer
Graduated from the School of Social Sciences, Waseda University. He attends Vantan Design Institute while in school. 2003 "ANREALAGE" started. 2005 Tokyo collection debut. Entered Paris Collection in 2014. In 2019, she was selected as an "LVMH PRIZE" finalist and won the 37th Mainichi Fashion Awards. In 2020, she announced a collaboration with FENDI at the Milan Collection. In 2021, she will be in charge of the official uniform for the Japan Pavilion at the Dubai World Expo, and in 2023, she will design the Beyoncé World Tour costume.

JudgeMasato YamaguchiRepresentative / Designer at MASATO YAMAGUCHI DESIGN OFFICE Director at Japan Adaptive Fashion Association
A Bunka Fashion Graduate University graduate, he launched a remake brand both domestically and internationally while still a student. Currently, he specializes in reuse and sustainable fashion. He is actively involved in various areas such as design, event planning, lecturing, and research activities at academic conferences. He serves as a board member of the Fashion Business Academic Society, a steering committee member of the Digital Textile Research Group, and the head of FashionGood lab.

Judging point
Based on the themes of each division, we will review from the perspective of design, functionality, novelty, marketability / business feasibility, sustainability, future potential, ease of use for people with disabilities, etc.

Inclusive Design category
This category is for designs intended to be worn by people with disabilities.
More specifically, the following types of designs are considered.
- Functions and forms necessary to meet the needs of the disability have been considered.

- A universal design that people without disabilities can also wear, with consideration given to the functions and forms necessary for people with disabilities.

Yoshinari Nishio
Born in Nara Prefecture in 1982, he is an artist and an associate professor at the Department of Intermedia Art, Tokyo University of the Arts. He specializes in social sculpture and performance art. He develops domestic and global projects focusing on the relationship between attire and communication. He also runs the fashion brand "NISHINARI YOSHIO." He has an upcoming publication titled "Inner Rupture of Attire" (Sayusha).

Daisuke Uehara
- He is a Paralympic ice hockey silver medalist. As the representative of a certified NPO D-SHiPS32 (D-SHiPS Mini) and the Japan Adaptive Design Association, he advises businesses and local governments. Additionally, he is involved in educational fields as a teacher at FC Imabari High School and through corporate training. He also works as a tourism advisor, contributing to community development initiatives.

Sakura Kato
- She is a Representative of the General Incorporated Association "mogmog engine." As one of her daughters was born in 2010 with Fukuyama’s congenital muscular dystrophy, she engages in various initiatives aimed at creating a world that is easier to live for people affected by the birth of children with disabilities. These include projects such as "Snack Toromi," a community that aims to improve the quality of life for children with feeding and swallowing disorders and their families; the Disability Strategy Division, which tackles social disabilities in a pop way; and DigiReha, which uses digital art and sensors to make rehabilitation fun.
For those who passed the first screening, through workshops with persons with disabilities,
We will brush up the design based on the user's perspective and needs.
